Driver Information

The information display for the driver has also been redesigned to feature a gear-change indicator to help in the fuel economy of the vehicle as well as display other important notes for the driver. This new information display also constant displays the outside temperature, and provides a significant safety feature. Depending on the temperature as judged by Tempomat, warnings about the current speed are shown. Also shown are current speed limit guidelines depending upon the country and the vehicle are in and the design of the car as it was intended for winter use.

Navigation

The larger and more sophisticated Amundsen navigation system has been imported from other Skodas into the new model, providing a five-inch touchscreen, a connection point for external memory, and an SD card reader. This touch screen serves to replace the former monochrome arrows that were the hallmark of the previous navigation system. Also including and replacing the CD changer, but still located in the glove box, is an additional Mobile Device interface (MDI) that provides additional hook-ups for the use of the different USB devices.

Electronic Interfaces

Also offered is a brand new GSM preparation system that allows, through audio streaming, there to be two different Bluetooth connections hosted at the same time. This allows you to have one connection set to your phone which can be used with the hands-free device while being able to listen to music at the same time through a second source. All aspects of these, including toggling voice control, can be controlled by the comfort of your steering wheel, never having to take the hands off the wheel to moderate your electronics.

The Motor

As seen in other cars of the Skoda family, the typical engine range is determined due to the downsizing the physical motor. Although boasting a smaller physical engine with reduced capacities, these engines are supplemented by turbo-charging the engine with high precision direct fuel injections that achieve the optimal combination fuel efficiency and top performance. This turbo-charging increases the torque levels, particularly on petrol engines, allowing for continued performance throughout the drive.

In addition to engine improvements, the adoption of lightweight construction serves to increase efficiency. The new 1.2 liter, three cylinder, engine supports a new reduced weight crankshift that weighs in 1.7kg light then the previous. This reduction in size helps to save production resources by having a smaller casting mold that leaves fewer residues.

All Skoda diesel engines are equipped with a particulate filter and include a common-rail system that allows high pressure injections. Boasting an injection pressure of up to 1,600 bar and including quick responding Piezo injectors that allow up to five injections during each cycle, engine quality and performance is noticeably improved. Also thanks to the new filters and injection systems there is a drastic reduction of both emissions and fuel consumption. All diesel engine versions of the Skoda Fabia also utilize an oxidation catalyst and exhaust gas recirculation to provide additional cleaning of the exhaust gases.
