Web hosting tutorials

If you have a gadget blog as few of our readers have you must host it to a reliable host.

I’m posting about web hosting again because it is vital to host your site to a good server from the beginning because changing your host is a very time consuming process and you can lose data (your work) while transferring files.

I post about web hosting rating because too many host providers claim to have unlimited Hosting Space and Bandwidth.

This is a lie. They don’t really offer unlimited Bandwidth. In the best case all is unlimited, but you can host just 1 domain, the idea is you can’t consume too much disk space or bandwidth with just one domain.

Another way to limit your "unlimited bandwidth" is via the hosting term of services: if your site uses more than 25% of their processor your account will be temporary suspended(in the best case). With a good blog having 2000 visitors per day you can eat 25% of their processor.

I was talking to support people of a "unlimited bandwidth" hosting and the discussion was something like that:

Me: Do you offer unlimited bandwidth?

Support: Yes.

Me: And if I have a popular blog with 3000-4000 visitors per day which needs a lot of bandwidth what it will happen?

Support: We shut down your account.

Nice answer no? The bandwidth was unlimited but if you need to much they will cancel your account and you’ll probably loose all your files from the server.

Before choosing a host see some web hosting tutorials.

Also be careful at the sites offering Yahoo, Google and Msn free credits to the pay per click programs. The majority of the sites are offering credits only to the US citizens – don’t ask me why.

Web hosting awards can be helpful but don’t base your entire decision on them.

Multifunction printers became very popular because they have integrated the scanner and offer a Xerox function.

The classic combination was between Scanners and printers. We will analyze the benefits of each product.

Multifunction printers

MX300

The majority of multifunction printers can be used for work and play and offer a 5 in one functions:

  • You’ll produce life-like photos with resolution up to 4800 x 1200 color dpi and quickly, too: A borderless 4" x 6" photo takes only about 46 seconds.
  • You can also print photos directly from a camera DV camcorder or camera phone, without a computer.
  • Your documents will feature bold, laser-quality text, and copies will be remarkably true to your originals.
  • You can produce 600-dpi scans with vibrant 48-bit color depth. Plus, it achieves Super G3 fax speed in color and B&W, and its memory can store 20 speed dial codes and receive 50 incoming pages.

The features of a multifunction printer

  • Color Inkjet Printer:
    Max Resolution (Black): 600 x 600 dpi, Color: 4800 x 1200 dpi
  • Color Flatbed Scanner:
    2400 x 4800 dpi
  • Color Copier:
Max Speed: 22 ppm black, 17 ppm color
  • Fax Transmission Speed:
Black: Approx, 3sec per page, Color: Approx, 1min
  • Speed Dialing:
    20 Locations

So a multifunction printer save you:

  • space – it is smaller than having all the equipment (printer, fax, scanner etc )
  • money – it is cheaper to get all in one printer than buying all equipment separately.

The minus is if your scanner is broken the whole machine must be taken to a service so if the scanner is broken you will remain without printer and fax and Xerox also.

Scanner + Printer

Printers

You can buy a printer separately especially if you want a portable one. Also if you are forced by the budget you can get Lexmark Printers – they have good prices and performances.

Printer Toner has the same price for multifunction and regular one.

Scanners

Panasonic_KVS2048C

Solo Scanners have better performances than the ones incorporated in multifunction printers. Just see the price of feature of a regular scanner.

Features

  • Document Handling: Automatic Document Feeder, 100-120 Sheets
  • Resolution: 600 dpi Optical
  • Maximum Scan Size: 8.5 x 25"
  • Bit Depth: 24-bit Color, 4/8-bit Grayscale
  • Scanning Speed: 41 ppm @ 200 dpi

Conclusion

Buying a multifunction printer or a scanner and a printer is up to ou and your needs. If you need to save space and money go for a multifunction printer. If you want portability get yourself a portable printer. If you need professional scanning the solo scanner is the right choice.
